Sikkim: Celebrations of Republic Day will not be grand due to COVID Surge

The Sikkim Govt has decided that Republic Day celebrations in Sikkim will not be grand this year as the corona cases in the State is very high and the general public is at great health risk.

Republic Day celebration in Sikkim this year will be held at Manan Kendra, instead of Paljor Stadium, where the celebrations are organised usually. Manan Kendra is a government building in Gangtok – the capital city of Sikkim. 

Let us tell you that this decision was taken during a meeting which was attended by senior Sikkim government officials, representatives of Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).  The event will be organised on a smaller scale in compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines, an official statement said. 

Moreover, the Republic Day functions, which are to be held in the districts and sub-divisions of the Himalayan state will follow the COVID-19 guidelines.
