New Delhi: In order to manage his workload before the 2023 World Cup, Mohammed Siraj was rested for the ODI portion of the West Indies tour. Following India's 1-0 series victory, Siraj took a flight back with the rest of the Test team, including R Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat, and Navdeep Saini.

Siraj was supposed to lead India's inexperienced pace attack, which also comprised Hardik Pandya, Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur, Mukesh Kumar, and Umran Malik, in Mohammed Shami's absence.

Prior to the domestic ODI World Cup in October, India has a busy schedule that includes the Asia Cup from August end to mid-September and a three-match ODI series against Australia at home in September.

Siraj, who was not selected for the Caribbean T20I tour, took seven wickets in the two Test matches, including a five-for in the first innings on a flat Port-of-Spain surface that led to a West Indies batting collapse on the fourth morning.

He participated in the World Test Championship final at The Oval against Australia prior to this tour, taking part in it and picking up five wickets, including a four-for in the first innings. He was also a key player for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2023, where he took 19 wickets in 14 games, the most for RCB, who just missed the playoffs.

In March 2022, Siraj's final ODI assignment was a home game against Australia. He finished the series with five wickets, second most in the series and the most for India. Siraj has taken 43 ODI wickets since the year 2022 began, which is a record for an Indian bowler.
