Sitara Devi, who made her mark worldwide as a Kathak dancer, was born on this day in 1920 in Kolkata. By the way, Sitara Devi does not need any intro, let me tell you that she struggled a lot to reach the peak of success she had achieved. Very few people know that at the age of just 16, seeing Sitara Devi's dance, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore awarded her the title of 'Kathak Queen'.

The special thing is that even today people introduce them by this name. Apart from this, Sitara Devi was also awarded 'Padma Shri' (1970) and 'Kalidas Samman' (1994) for her special contribution towards her art and dance, which shows her true passion and hard work towards Kathak. Let us tell you that Bollywood's famous actresses like Rekha, Madhubala, Mala Sinha and Kajol were taught the tricks of dance by Kathak queen Sitara Devi.

It is said that a few days after birth, her parents gave her to the maid because her mouth was a little crooked. After this, the maid served Sitara Devi a lot in childhood and cured her mouth and returned her back to her parents. Sitara Devi was born on the day of Dhanteras, due to which people used to call her Dhanno. Renowned Kathak dancer Sitara Devi passed away on November 25, 2014, at the age of 94 after a prolonged illness.
