New Delhi: After a humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress party is now reluctant to make the relations with the leader apart from Nehru-Gandhi family. The latest controversy related to Congress is about the names of former congressional presidents recorded in the party's website. The name of late Speaker Sitaram Kesari is removed from the list of leaders who remained as the party president.

Sitaram Kesari belonged to the backward classes of Bihar. Kesari was the president of the Indian National Congress from the year 1996 to 1998. But the party website does not have its name in the list of former presidents. It may be recalled that former PM PV Narasimha Rao became the head of Congress after Rajiv Gandhi passed away. Sitaram Kesari was given the responsibility after Narasimha quit the post of Congress president in September 1996. Kesari was President of Congress until March 1998. After Kesari, the party took over the reins of Sonia Gandhi.

On March 9, 1998, Kesari announced his resignation, but after a few minutes he changed his mind . Kesari claimed that he had only expressed his intention to resign. However, all the leading newspapers raided him saying that Kesari had resigned. The CWC had a meeting, Kesari objected to the minutes of the meeting. Kesari was severely uprooted when Mukherjee thanked him for his services as party president and offered Sonia Gandhi to take up office. '
