May 5 ,2016 : Election Assembly polling began today, in the sixth and last phase in the two districts of WB at East Midnapore and Coochbehar among strict security.

An electorate of above 58 lakh is eligible to cast their votes at 6,774 polling stations between 7 AM to 6 PM in 25 constituencies.

In 170 candidates, involving 18 women, are in the fray for the last phase of polling. Preserving a tight security shelter, the poll panel has organized 361 companies of central forces helped by a contingent of 12,000 state police personnel.

Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC have been propagated on the polling day and enforced strictly to safeguard that any illegal assembly is effectively restricted.

Out of the total electors, 27.8 lakh are women while the third gender constitutes a small marginal of 68 voters.

The weather is normal to be pleasant with thunder squall happening in many places in the two districts in the past hours. The weathermen in fact have foretold heavy showers in Coochbehar district, in specific.
