New Delhi: Attacking on Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Smriti Irani called him an absentee MP for not being present when the people of Amethi needed his help. She called on the people of the constituency to vote for the freedom of Amethi and to free themselves from the shackles of a missing MP.

Speaking on Gandhi’s temple run Irani urged the people to free Amethi from the shackles of a Missing MP. Irani said, “It is the election of our village, the election of Indians who pride themselves on India. It is the election of Amethi's independence. Free yourself Amethi, from the shackles of a missing MP.”

Irani further said when UP CM Yogi Adityanath stormed to power in Uttar Pradesh suddenly Rahul Gandhi remembered Ram Temple but later I heard he filed his nomination from another constituency.

Slamming’ manifesto of grand old part,  Irani claimed that it helped anti-India forces. Congress in its manifesto which was released recently had promised significant changes in the laws, like ending the colonial-era Sedition law and amending the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).

The Congress had lost eight of the 10 Assembly seats from Gandhi family’s home turf in 2017. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections Gandhi managed to defeat Irani but his victory margin came down to 1 lakh from 3 lakh.

Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections starting from April 11.
