There is a severe shortage of teachers in Rajasthan. More than half of the fixed positions are vacant and on an average, more than one hundred and fifty teachers are to be retired every year. During the Corona epidemic, it will not be possible to get students to study with social distancing. In such a situation, the Rajasthan University and College Teachers Association hopes that like the state government, the central government and other states, the retirement age of higher education teachers in the state will increase from sixty to sixty-five years. The state government, which is facing an economic crisis due to Corona epidemic, will also get relief about the payment of about 815 crore rupees. Out of 6500 posts in various state universities and state colleges of Rajasthan, already 3500 posts have been lying vacant for a long time, while 815 teachers are going to retire in the next five years.

Apart from this, according to government statistics, 134 are to be retired in the year 2020, 147 in the year 2021, 187 in 2022, 175 in 2023 and 174 teachers in the year 2024. In this way, on average, more than one hundred and fifty teachers are to be retired every year. After retirement, these teachers have to pay about one crore rupees per teacher including gratuity, encashment of leave, commutation of pension etc. In this way, the state government will have to pay eight hundred and fifteen crore rupees in the next five years.

During the Corona epidemic, the teachers union is hoping that the state government should raise the retirement age from sixty to sixty-five years like other states. This will give relief to the state government regarding the financial payment, while the number of vacant posts will also not increase. The retirement age in higher education in these states is sixty-five years, in addition to the central universities of the country, the retirement age of teachers in higher education in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Sikkim, Assam, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand should be increased to sixty-five years. Has been done Whereas in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, Puducherry, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, retired teachers of higher education are sixty-two years instead of sixty years.
