A soldier has sustained critical injuries following a suspected terrorist attack on an army camp near Jammu on Monday. The incident occurred at the Sunjawan Military Station, situated on the outskirts of the city, around 10:50 am.
According to officials, gunfire was directed at a sentry post within the camp, leading to the soldier's injuries. In response, a large-scale search operation has been launched to find and apprehend the attackers. Details about the assailants are still being collected.
The attack triggered panic, prompting the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police to assist the army in a comprehensive search effort to track down the terrorists. So far, there has been no contact with the perpetrators.
In a similar incident in February 2018, terrorists targeted the Sunjawan military camp, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers, one civilian, and three terrorists.
The ongoing search operation aims to ensure the safety of the area and capture those responsible for the attack.
Between April and July of this year, several districts in Jammu experienced a series of violent terror incidents as attempts by terror handlers from across the border to re-ignite militancy in the previously tranquil region intensified. The surge in attacks disrupted the relative peace that had been maintained for years, highlighting a troubling escalation in militant activity. The coordinated efforts by these terror groups aimed to destabilize the area, prompting heightened security measures and a renewed focus on counter-terrorism operations by local authorities.
