Mumbai: Actress Sonam Kapoor is actively supporting the 'Word to Screen' initiative at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, where she serves as the brand ambassador. She expressed her enthusiasm for roles inspired by literary works, showcasing her love for stories that transition from page to screen.
The 'Word to Screen' initiative, organized by the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in collaboration with Soho House Mumbai, provides a distinctive platform for writers, publishers, and filmmakers to connect and explore cinematic adaptations of their stories.
In her remarks about this initiative, Sonam said, "As an actor, I believe that a film's quality relies heavily on its script. It is essential to support writers and publishers through platforms like Word to Screen, where they can brainstorm and collaborate with filmmakers to bring their visions to life in an authentic and dynamic way."
She added, "As an avid reader, I am particularly attracted to roles adapted from books. Such characters offer depth that is crucial for their development on screen. Word to Screen allows me to give back to the art form I cherish. I'm delighted to continue my association with MAMI's Word to Screen and help facilitate engaging narratives on screen."
This year, the initiative has expanded to include entries from non-fiction articles published in both print and online newspapers and magazines.
Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Festival Director of the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, remarked, "Cinema blends various art forms and has maintained a close relationship with literature over the years. Many of cinema's greatest films have been adapted from literary sources. I am thrilled that MAMI has cultivated this unique platform that fosters collaboration between filmmakers and the literary world. We deeply appreciate Sonam Kapoor’s ongoing support as the brand ambassador for this initiative."
Launched in 2016, 'Word to Screen' is a pioneering initiative that serves as a dynamic and inclusive platform, exploring the synergy between the written word and the enchantment of cinema.
