JAIPUR: Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, announced on Friday that he will file his nomination for the post of Congress president after meeting Rahul Gandhi in Kerala. He added that Sonia Gandhi and general secretary in-charge Ajay Maken will decide on the CM face.

Gehlot said, "Rahul Gandhi made it plain during the meeting that this time only a non-Gandhi will be elected president. This is the ultimate choice; no member of the Gandhi family will become president." Gehlot stated in a media interview that, "After meeting Rahul Gandhi once, I had asked him for anything. We suggested that Rahul Gandhi accept the position of President in such form since state Congress committees all over the nation are passing resolutions to that effect. I attempted to talk a lot." Once it has been resolved that no one from the Gandhi family will lead the party this time, according to Rahul Gandhi, it has been made very obvious.

"He claimed, "I respect everyone and I know what they want." I feel respect for them because they voted on resolutions on my behalf. This time, for some reason, we have determined that the president should not be a member of the Gandhi family." Regarding the subject of leaving the position of CM, Gehlot stated that, up until this point, the Congress president has never also served as the Chief Minister. "If given the opportunity, I will only serve as the Congress President." Gehlot responded that Sonia Gandhi will decide what happens next in the event that the position of CM in Rajasthan becomes vacant. Ajay Maken, the general secretary in charge, and Sonia Gandhi will make a decision together, he said.

On Friday, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot would travel to the Sai Baba temple in Shirdi before returning to Jaipur in the evening to begin the nomination preparations.
