New Delhi: Expressing grief over the death of social activist Swami Agnivesh, the interim president of the Congress on Saturday said that he raised his voice for the rights of the underprivileged throughout his life. He said in a statement that, "Swami Agnivesh worked for the deprived sections of society with full commitment and determination throughout his life. He raised his voice fearlessly for the rights of the exploited, the oppressed and the poor and often took personal risks for it. ''

Sonia Gandhi further said that Swami Agnivesh's energy and faith in creative social work is inspiring everyone. The country will always honor his memory. Significantly, Swami Agnivesh, who was suffering from liver cirrhosis for a long time, died in a hospital in Delhi on Friday due to multiple organs becoming inactive. He was 80.

Meanwhile, famous writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar has also tweeted. He wrote in a tweet: "This world has lost another great human being as Swami Agnivesh. His voice against bonded labor gave millions of men-women and children a new life. Good bye Swami ji."
