Chandigarh: After conquering the fort of Punjab, the focus of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has now shifted to Haryana. AAP's entry into Haryana has created a stir in Congress. In such a situation, congress leaders from Haryana held a meeting at the residence of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday. Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi also attended the meeting. It is being told that measures to prepare the party for the state assembly elections to be held in 2024 were brainstormed.
The meeting was attended by Haryana Congress unit president Kumari Selja, state AICC in-charge Vivek Bansal, former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, AICC general secretary Randeep Surjewala, former state chief Kiran Chaudhary and senior MLA of the party. Congress sources said that the meeting was similar to the one when earlier this week, Sonia Gandhi held the necessary consultations with Himachal Congress leaders to win the next elections.
Congress sources say the party does not want to repeat the 2019 poll scenario, where Bhupinder Singh Hooda was given the entire election charge and Shailja was brought in as the state chief for just two months at the last minute to go to the polls. During that time, Congress lost some seats to the BJP-JJP alliance.
