Seoul: Health officials in South Korea have approved a new investigative method that can detect coronavirus and seasonal colds (influenza) in a single sample. The winter cold season is about to come and in such a situation, checking by this technique will help reduce congestion in hospitals.

Several precautionary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of infection in South Korea, but experts believe that the prevalence of corona infection may be higher in the cold season, a season in which people stay indoors most of the time. The Korean Disease Control and Prevention Agency reported Wednesday that 118 new cases of corona have been reported, most of them from the densely populated area of Seoul. So far, 26,925 cases of corona have been registered in the country and 474 patients have died due to corona.

This new technique of investigation targets genes that are found in both corona and seasonal colds. It is an advanced form of PCR test in which corona examination is done by taking samples from the nose and throat. Senior Health Ministry official Yoon Tahoe said that the symptoms of both seasonal cold and coronavirus diseases are similar, so the detection of these two in three to six hours will facilitate the patients and will not put any additional burden on the health workers.
