Chennai, Tamil Nadu - As the Pooja festival kicks off today, ushering in a four-day consecutive holiday, the Southern Railway has issued a crucial announcement affecting commuters in the region. In light of maintenance work on the agenda, a total of 23 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train services are set to be canceled for two days, creating potential travel woes for passengers.

These service interruptions will primarily occur today, October 21st, and tomorrow, October 22nd. The maintenance work is scheduled to be executed at Tiruvottiyur and Ennore railway stations, which are located along the Chennai Central–Kudur route.

Among the notable cancellations are train services bound for the Gummidipoondi route, including the electric train departing from Chennai Beach to Gummidipoondi at 10.45 pm. Also affected are the train departing from Moormarket to Gummidipoondi at 11.20 pm and the electric train journey from Sulurpettai to Moormarket at 9.40 pm, all of which will be unavailable today.

For tomorrow, disruptions continue with electric trains departing from Moormarket to Sulurpettai at 4.20 am, 5.00 am, 5.20 am, 7.30 am, and 7.45 am all experiencing cancellations. Likewise, train services departing from Sulurpettai to Moormarket at 5 am, 5.40 am, and 6.40 am in the opposite direction will be affected.

Morning commuters will also face inconveniences, as electric trains from Moormarket to Gummidipoondi at 5.40 am, 6.25 am, 6.50 am, and 8.15 am have been canceled. Furthermore, trains departing from Gummidipoondi to Moormarket at 3.50 am, 4.50 am, 5.10 am, 6 am, and 8 am will not be operational.

Travelers along the Chennai Beach – Ennore – Ponneri route are not spared from the service disruptions either. The electric train departing from Chennai Beach to Ponneri at 5.15 am and the return journey from Ponneri to Beach at 6.45 am will be canceled.

Further affecting travel plans are the cancellations of the Ennore to Thiruvallur train at 6.35 am, the Ponneri to Moormarket train at 7.50 am, the Avadi to Ennore train at 5 am, and the Thiruvallur to Ponneri train at 5.20 am.

In total, today will witness the cancellation of three train services, while tomorrow will see a staggering 23 train services disrupted. To alleviate the inconvenience faced by passengers, a special train will be in operation on the Chennai Moormarket-Gummidipoondi route at 10.45 pm and 11.20 pm tonight. Moreover, special train services are scheduled for 4.20 am, 5.00 am, 5.20 am, 5.40 am, 6.25 am, 6.50 am, 7.30 am, 7.45 am, and 8.15 am tomorrow morning. This arrangement aims to minimize the impact of the maintenance work and enable passengers to continue their journeys with minimal disruption.
