Although the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh have not been announced, political activities have intensified. Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday announced its candidates for 6 out of 10 seats, which has shocked even political analysts. In this first list of SP, Tej Pratap Singh Yadav from Karhal seat, Naseem Solanki from Sisamau, Muftifah Siddiqui from Phulpur, Ajit Prasad from Milkipur, Shobhavati Verma from Katehari and Jyoti Bind from Majhawan have been made candidates.
SP's strategy: The announcement of by-elections on these seats which fell vacant after the Lok Sabha elections is likely to be made soon. The Election Commission has almost completed its preparations. The announcement of the names of the candidates by the SP has raised questions on the possibilities of alliance, as Congress was still staking its claim on these seats. The SP has decided to give one to two seats to the Congress, while the Congress is demanding five seats.
Question on alliance: The situation regarding the alliance between Congress and SP is not yet completely clear. However, most of the seats on which SP has fielded its candidates are those seats which its members had vacated by resigning. SP had won these seats in the last assembly elections.
PDA Formula: SP has kept in mind its PDA (Backward-Dalit-Minority) formula in the selection of candidates. Through this formula, SP is trying to appease various social groups. On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also prepared a panel of three candidates for each seat, which will be sent to the party high command soon. The ongoing strategic moves between political parties have made the by-election contest interesting. This move of SP will not only affect the alliance but will also affect the future strategies of BJP and Congress.
