New Delhi: Police will interrogate Delhi Minorities Commission chief Zafarul Islam in case of treason. Special cell of Delhi Police will issue notice on Monday under Section 160 of CRPC for involvement in the inquiry. Within the next two days of receiving the notice, they will have to face special cell inquiry.

Following the order of the High Court, the police have got permission to interrogate Zafarul Islam. The High Court has stayed the arrest of Zafarul till 22 June. However, the Delhi Police has got the nod for questioning. He is accused of posting a disputed and breaking country statement on social media, after which the Special Cell had registered a case on sedition and various other sections. Zafarul's term as the chairman of the Minorities Commission ends on 14 July.

In the FIR, there has been a demand to remove him from the post. In the Delhi High Court hearing last week, the Delhi government told the court that on the show cause notice given to Zafarul Islam, he has forwarded his reply to the government. However, it was not clear from the government whether the government was satisfied with the reply given by Zafarul to the government.
