In India, 5G services were launched in 2022, and the current focus of the administration is to provide 6G services to the general public. On March 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the nation's 6G vision document and started the 6G R&D Test Bed. He added that measures related to 6G taken within six months of the introduction of 5G demonstrate India's confidence. In his remarks at the opening of the ITU Area Office and Innovation Center in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi remarked, "Today, only six months after the launch of 5G, we are talking about 6G, which demonstrates India's confidence. We also delivered our vision statement today. In the upcoming years, this will serve as a fundamental foundation for the development of 6G.

The 6G vision plan, according to PM Modi, would not only eventually evolve into Digital India but will also offer ideas and solutions for South Asia and the Global South. This will open up a lot of new possibilities, particularly for academia, innovators, start-ups, and business. According to him, the ITU office in India will contribute to creating the ideal conditions for 6G in the nation.

According to a PTI report, the Department of Telecom's vision paper indicates that while 5G technology delivers a maximum speed of 40 to 1,100 Mbps with the potential to attain a high of 10000 Mbps, 6G will provide ultra-low transmission delay and accelerations up to 1 terabit per second, which is 1,000 times faster than the of 5G.

In the meantime, when discussing 5G, PM Modi stated that India is collaborating with many nations to use the power of 5G to transform the global workplace."India will soon create 100 new 5G labs." This will greatly contribute to the realization of the 5G opportunities, business models, and job potential. These 100 new labs will aid in the creation of 5G apps tailored to India's specific requirements. India is moving quickly in many directions, whether it be toward 5G smart classrooms, agriculture, intelligent transportation systems, or healthcare applications. India's 5G standards are compatible with the world's 5G networks, he said.

"Before 4G, India was merely a user of telecom technology; now, India is swiftly converting into a big exporter of telecom technology," said the prime minister.

The Technology Innovation Group on 6G (TIG-6G), which was established in November 2021 with members from numerous Ministries/Departments, research and development organizations, academic institutions, standards organizations, telecommunications service providers, and industry, produced the Bharat 6G Vision Document. The consortium has created both action plans and a roadmap for 6G in India..
