NEW DELHI: A Jabalpur-bound SpiceJet aircraft was compelled to make an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Saturday after its pilot noticed smoke in the cabin.
A senior SpiceJet official said the Q400 aircraft SG-2962 was operating between Delhi and Jabalpur.

"While passing 5000f t, the pilot noticed smoke in the cabin after which he decided to return to Delhi," the official said. He further said that the aircraft landed safely in Delhi, following which passengers disembarked.

Five fire tenders were immediately called into service as a precaution after we received a call regarding an emergency landing at 7 am, a fire department official said. By 7.25 a.m., the official verified that the aircraft had successfully landed and had restarted its engines.
