Bhubaneshwar: With the help of Ramgiri forest officials, the Special Task Force (STF) detained one person and collected leopard skin during a search operation on Wednesday.

"Based on reliable information, a team of task force conducted a raid on the road between the villages of Machaghara and Khamari Sahi under Gajapati district and discovered a leopard's skin and other incriminating materials illegally possessed by the accused, Pabitra Lima," a senior STF official said.

The accused has been apprehended and handed over to Ramgiri forest officials, who will take whatever legal action is necessary, according to the STF official. The wildlife product will be submitted to the Wild Life Institute of India, Deharadun, for chemical analysis.

Since its inception in 2020, the task force has seized the skins of 26 leopards, 15 elephant tusks, the skins of seven deer, 11 live pangolin, 19.5 kg of pangolin scales, two leopard teeth, 29 leopard claws, and 46 live wild parrots, in addition to arresting 60 wildlife criminals, according to the senior official.
