Kolkata: There have been reports of sexual exploitation of a national level female swimmer from Hooghly, West Bengal. It is alleged that her coach sexually abused her. Taking cognizance of the matter, Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju has said that the Goa Swimming Association has canceled the contract of accused coach Surjit Ganguly.

Kiran Rijiju has also said that he will talk to the Swimming Federation not to get the accused coach a job anywhere across the country. This order will be applicable to all federations and other institutions. The 15-year-old national-level swimmer from Hooghly has disclosed the sexual abuse done to her on social media.
This player used to swim for Goa. She has won many medals at the national and state level as well. Surjit Ganguly was his coach in Bengal and later in 2017-18, Surjeet moved from Bengal to Goa.

In the month of March this year, the swimmer along with her father, mother and sister went to Goa. At the same time, this swimmer got less practice time to participate in a competition organized in Rajkot. Due to this, she could not perform well in the competition. The 15-year-old swimmer had many dreams but her morale continued to crumble. Here she told her mother that the coach has sexually abused her. After which a police complaint was made.
