New Delhi: The Union Sports Ministry on Thursday extended the contract of all its foreign coaches to 30 September next year and said that future coaches both Indians and foreigners will be given four years in accordance with the Olympic Games to ensure continuity.
The four-year agreement to be given to the new coaches will however be based on the recommendations of the respective National Sports Federations (NSFs). The term of the current appointed coaches has been extended due to the global epidemic coronavirus. It is postponed to next year. The contracts will be reviewed annually and will be carried forward based on their overall performance. The performance of the coaches will be based on the achievements of the athletes under them in major international competitions.
In this regard, Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju said that "Coaches are the backbone of the sports system of any country and it is right for our players to improve the opportunity in all major international tournaments including the Olympics of India. Ensuring coaching is an important step in this direction."
