Superstar Shahrukh Khan is all involved in promotions of his upcoming film Raees starring Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui also. Shahrukh once said that for him choosing a film is choosing a sate of mind. So, while promoting Raees, when SRK was asked about the state of mind at the time of choosing Raees.

King Khan says, "I was just finishing Happy New Year , at that time we were in the mood of Happy New Year and Happy New Year was just a happy-go-lucky, over the top dance film that we were assuming, during a certain holiday period, people will enjoy. It was meant to be an event film, everything will be larger than life, action will be great, instead of 8 packs there'll be 10 packs. So the whole idea was that it was meant to be a little exaggerated because Farah is that kind of a filmmaker, very interestingly so. It was a multi-starrer after a long time. So I think, having nearly finished it, I was in a state of mind to do something which is cosier, grittier and more realistic. Happy New Year came after may be Chennai Express which is also an over the top happy film."

He added, "So I was feeling like, as an actor I should be in a film which is more cosy, internalised, deeper and Rahul (Dholakia) and all make films like that...niche substance oriented films. But he was very keen to, kind of put it on a platform which is a little more popular. So he'd spoken to Farhan (Akhtar) and Ritesh (Sidhwani) and I liked the whole idea."

When SRK was doing an off beat film, he said, "You know I've never been... I'm more of an urban star, urban actor. That suits me. But I'll be honest I've never done completely niche off beat films. I don't perhaps understand them or people haven't offered them to me. But initially I did a Maya Memsaab ...but I'm still a little akin to the story should be lenient, there should be more of story telling, I believe that. So I think Raees fitted the bill for me as an actor, that I should get into a zone. But a very well written. Not a typical story where a boy goes on to become a don and beats up the villain. It's actually the journey of a man from the age of 7-8 to about 45."

SRK and Mahira have been promoting Raees in Dubai but separately
