The Serum Institute of India (SII) announced a price decrease of approximately Rs 375 per dosage for its vaccine Covishield for private hospitals as India prepares to begin providing precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccinations to everyone over the age of 18.
On Twitter, SII CEO Adar Poonawalla announced the price reduction for Covishield. The vaccine's price has been reduced from Rs 600 per dosage to Rs 225 per dose for private hospitals.
"We are glad to inform you that SII has decided to lower the pricing of COVISHIELD vaccine for private hospitals from Rs.600 to Rs 225 per dose after negotiation with the Central Government," Poonawalla said in a tweet.
The government stated on Friday that the COVID-19 precaution dosage will be accessible at private vaccination centres beginning April 10 for anybody over the age of 18. Those who are over the age of 18 and have been on the second dose for at least nine months are eligible for the precaution dose.
