WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden remarked just before receiving his second Covid-19 booster shot that just because "we're now in a different period in this pandemic" doesn't mean it's done.
He encouraged Congress to "obtain more financing for the Covid-19 response" when speaking to reporters at the White House on Wednesday, as per reports. "You can't build a high enough wall to keep a virus out... Now is the time for Congress to act. Please." Last Monday, the fund that covers testing and treatment for uninsured Americans ran out of money, forcing people to spend up to 125 dollars for a PCR test out of pocket. Next week, the money set aside to cover the expense of providing vaccines to the uninsured will run out.
Without further financing, Biden stated that his government has had to cancel planned monoclonal antibody orders and reduce the amount it sends to states, adding that "we'll start running out of them by the end of May."
He also announced the creation of COVID.gov, a new website branded by the White House as a "one-stop shop" for people in the United States to obtain improved access to vaccines, tests, treatments, and masks, "as well as get the most up-to-date information" in their area. After the remarks, Biden, 79, received his 2nd Covid booster shot on camera.
