New Jammu and Kashmir has got a big gift on New Year. From January 1, 2020, the double taxation on the people of Jammu and Kashmir will end. A tax system will be implemented from Kashmir to Kanyakunwari from Wednesday. All toll posts, including railway stations and airports, along with the state's entrance gateway to Lakhanpur have been removed. Toll tax was levied on whatever goods used to come from Lakhanpur, railway, and airways, which has now been liberated.
On Tuesday, two notifications were issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Financial Department in this regard. In Jammu and Kashmir, for 2 and a half years, people were paying GST on every purchase, besides paying a minimum of Rs 100 per quintal toll tax on all goods coming from other states except certain things. The most benefit of ending the toll tax on goods will be in the purchase of construction materials. A 50 kg bag of cement will now be cheaper by about Rs 50 in Jammu and Kashmir.
