Kolkata: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, who is always surrounded in controversies, became a victim of trolls in a tense manner on one of his tweets on Tuesday. The Twitter users drew a lot of criticism for his tweet, in which he described the table used by Lord Curzon to sign the partition papers of Bengal as 'iconic' in the caption. Many social media users have literally attacked the governor, claiming that he has praised the division through his tweet.

According to the sources, the Governor tweeted a photo last Tuesday morning, in which he was sitting. He wrote, sitting at the iconic table in the historic Raj Bhavan Library, recording the New Year's message for the residents of the state of West Bengal, which (on the table) was signed by Lord Curzon in 1905 on the first partition (papers) of Bengal. On being trolled for this tweet, Dhankhar made another tweet, in which he wrote that the person sitting at the table is a humble servant with a mandate to uphold and protect the constitution and serve the people of the state of West Bengal.

Senior TMC leader and state Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee said, "We want to forget the entire episode of Partition of Bengal." This (Dhankhar's tweet) is very unfortunate. Two writers who had gone through the horrific experience of partitioning the country in 1947 also criticized Dhankar for this. As the writer, Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay said, "I think he got the whole thing wrong. The word 'Iconic' should not have been used in this tweet." The governor used the term incorrectly. Litterateur Prafulla Roy, who agreed with Mukhopadhyay, said, "Partition was very painful. The term was not used in the true sense."
