Attacking the BJP-led central government in the backdrop of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) on Wednesday, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that people are not divided on the basis of caste, creed, and religion in Bengal because unity in diversity of Bengal at the core of the soul is inhabited.

According to the media report, while addressing the industrialists as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of Business Summit 2019 held at Tourism Nagar Digha under East Medinipur district, Mamata Banerjee said, "There is unity in diversity at the core of the soul of Bengal and we do not distribute people on the basis of caste, creed, and religion. We believe in being united. We are a family and no one living here can say that he/she is deprived."

Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was being discussed in the Rajya Sabha when the TMC chief made the said statement on Wednesday. The Trinamool chief is already opposing the bill. He described the NRC and CAB as two sides of the same coin. Earlier, while opposing the bill in the Rajya Sabha, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien said that the bill is anti-India and Bengal. He said that Bengalis do not need to teach patriotism and 70% of the prisoners in Andaman jails were Bengalis.
