Stones cannot be brought to rooftops in 10-15 minutes: Kolkata High Court

Kolkata: A hearing was held in the Kolkata High Court regarding the violence in West Bengal during the Ram Navami procession. During this, the court also accepted that the stones could not be taken to the roof in just 10–15 minutes. Therefore, it is clear that the preparations for the violence were made well in advance. Along with this, the High Court has reserved its decision regarding the investigation of this violence by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

There was already preparation for violence on Ram Navami.

Actually, BJP MLA Shubhendu Adhikari had filed a petition in the Kolkata High Court. In this petition, the officer had demanded that the NIA investigate the communal violence that broke out in Bengal during Ram Navami. In this case, a division bench of Acting Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya said, while hearing the case on Monday (April 10), that the violence was pre-planned. But it could not be stopped. It is clear that it happened because of an intelligence failure. During the hearing, the High Court also indicated that the investigation of Bengali violence could be handed over to the NIA. That's because the court has said that this matter looks very serious. Reports suggest that the violence was preplanned. Therefore, the Central Investigation Agency can investigate this matter of violence in a better way. The court also noted that the police had to resort to pellet guns and tear gas to control the crowd. Looking at this, it appears that the matter was serious. Swords, bottles, broken glass, and acid were used in the violence, and the internet was banned. This shows that the violence took place on a large scale.

Violence happened due to the failure of the intelligence system.

The High Court has said that the reports show that preparations were already made for the violence. It is alleged that people threw stones from the rooftops. It is obvious that within 10–15 minutes the stones cannot be brought to the roof. This is a failure of the intelligence system. There are two problems here. The first problem is that the violence has occurred between two groups. At the same time, the second problem is that a third group can take undue advantage of this violence. In such a situation, it should be investigated by the Central Investigation Agency. If the Bengal Police investigates this matter, it will be difficult for them to find out who is benefiting from this violence.' The Judge of the Calcutta High Court also observed that, in the last 4-5 months, the High Court has sent eight orders to the Bengal government. All these cases are related to violence during religious events. Doesn't it represent something else? I have been a judge for the last 14 years. But I've never seen this in my entire career.

Why questions are being raised about the Mamta government's role in violence:

Let us tell you that, after the violence, CM Mamata Banerjee said that Muslims cannot do any wrong in the month of Ramzan; only the processionists entered the Muslim area with their procession and raised objectionable slogans, which incited the violence. After this statement by Mamta, similar news also appeared in the media. However, videos of people pelting stones at the procession have appeared on social media. Even before Ram Navami, Mamta Banerjee had warned in a statement that if there is an attack on a Muslim's house during the procession, I will not leave it'. Now it is also worth noting that, on the one hand, Mamta Banerjee is asking why the processionists entered the Muslim area, while the Calcutta High Court says that the procession was taken out only through the route decided by the Bengal Police. This begs the question: if there was an apprehension of violence in a Muslim area, why did the police give permission to take the procession out of there? And what were those objectionable slogans, which the police either did not hear or, even if they did, did not stop the protestors from raising them? And even if the slogans were objectionable, the people of the Muslim community could have complained to the police; why did they pelt stones at the procession?

Let us tell you, Mamta Banerjee herself has also been seen getting irritated many times with the slogans of Jai Shri Ram. Mamta has left the stage many times due to the slogan Jai Shri Ram being raised in the programmes. In such a situation, it can be assumed that Mamta Banerjee has objections to this slogan, and it is possible that when this slogan was chanted in the Ram Navami procession, Mamta supporters got agitated and attacked. Although a team led by the former Chief Justice of Patna High Court has reached Bengal to find out the truth, they are not being allowed to go to the riot-affected area. In such a situation, the question arises: Is the Mamta government trying to hide the truth about the riots?
