New Delhi: In a breakthrough study, experts suggest that gold nanoparticles, commonly known as 'gold bhasma,' utilized in medicinal and cosmetic formulations, not only shield the skin from external threats but also possess the remarkable ability to combat the effects of aging. Dr. R. P. Parasher, National President of the Integrated Medical Association (Ayush), emphasizes that gold bhasma, in its ash form, is readily absorbed by the skin.

Gold bhasma has long been a staple ingredient in various Ayurvedic concoctions, serving as a rejuvenating elixir that nurtures multiple systems within the human body, Dr. Parasher explains.

The age-old benefits of gold, revered for millennia in Ayurveda, are manifold, ranging from rejuvenation and immune modulation to beautification and healing, asserts Dr. Parasher. Describing gold bhasma as a potent anti-aging agent, he elaborates on its ability to decelerate collagen depletion, spur cell regeneration, and enhance metabolism, muscle tone, and the strength of tissues, bones, and nerves.

Dr. Sanchit Sharma, Director of Aimil-Ayouthveda, notes the burgeoning popularity of products infused with gold nanoparticles, particularly among the younger demographic in India. Collaborating with Indian researchers, Aimil-Ayouthveda has developed a radiant gold face wash, blending 24-carat gold nanoparticles with Kashmiri saffron for enhanced efficacy. Complemented by the inclusion of rose, lotus, and marigold distillates, the face wash offers hydration, redness reduction, and cell rejuvenation, promoting a harmonious complexion.

Echoing these sentiments, Dr. Lalit Mohan Sah, Additional Director (Ayurveda) at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, underscores the extensive therapeutic utility of gold bhasma in Ayurveda. With a legacy spanning millennia, gold bhasma has been utilized to address diverse clinical conditions, including microbial infections, respiratory ailments, gastrointestinal disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus, and neurological maladies.

Dr. Sah further highlights the remarkable bioavailability of gold nanoparticles, capable of permeating the skin, intestines, and sublingual mucosa, facilitating direct absorption into the bloodstream.

Beyond the realms of Ayurveda, European researchers have attested to the efficacy of beauty products infused with gold nanoparticles, which bolster the epidermal layer and stimulate fibroblast cells responsible for synthesizing essential skin proteins such as vimentin and collagen.

The revelation of gold nanoparticles' profound therapeutic and cosmetic potential underscores the enduring allure of this precious metal in the pursuit of health and beauty.
