New Delhi: PM Modi has laid the foundation stone and did 'Bhoomi Pujan' of the new Parliament House today. The construction of the new four-storey parliament building is expected to be completed by the 75th anniversary of India's independence. The new Parliament building is proposed to be constructed in an area of 64,500 square meters at an estimated cost of Rs 971 crore.
The program started with Bhoomi Pujan amid Vedic chanting and after its completion, in the auspicious time, PM Modi laid the foundation stone with traditional law. During this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, leaders of various political parties, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, many Union ministers, a large number of MPs and ambassadors of many countries were present in the program.
BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has shared a cartoon on social media, taunting the central government on the decision to build a new parliament building. In this cartoon, the public is seen questioning the government, why are the prices of petrol so high? In response to which NITI Aayog says that petrol will not be taxed, so where will the money come from to run the country? After this, the public again questions that the government is short of funds, so where did the money for the new Parliament House come from? In response, the NITI Aayog tells PM Modi, "This is the result of more democracy than necessary".
