The Stagnati Urban Development Authority (SUDA) is in the process of creating a master plan to meet the development needs of Khammam Municipal Corporation and its surrounding areas. The state government plans to develop GIS based master plans with 44 layers of information to existing urban local bodies in the state, including 56 newly formed municipalities.
The Centre for Symbiosis of Technology, Environment and Management, Bangalore has been selected to prepare khammam's geo-spatial database to develop a master plan based on geographic information system (GIS) mapping. A survey is being conducted to collect data on land use, nature of buildings, number of floors, roads, traffic and transport, street lights, sewage and sanitation, water connection, water resources and infrastructure and others.
Suda Chairman Bachu Vijay Kumar said the master plan aims to create a future territorial and land use plan framework to promote, guide and rationalize the development of Khammam city over the next two decades. It covers 46 villages in eight mandals in Khammam, Vaira, Palair and Madhyapradesh assembly constituencies and khammam municipal corporation (KMC) covering the Suda limits of 557.54 square kilometers. The authenticity of the master plan prepared when Khammam was a municipality will expire in December. As a municipal corporation now the city limits have expanded so there are development challenges and we are making efforts to address them with a new master plan.
