In New York, Google CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strong push for using artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle pressing societal issues. During a recent CEOs' roundtable with PM Modi, Pichai expressed enthusiasm about the Prime Minister's commitment to transforming India through his "Digital India" vision.

"PM Modi has encouraged us to continue manufacturing and designing in India. We're proud to now produce our Pixel phones locally. His vision for AI is about making a positive impact on people's lives," Pichai said.

The Indian-origin tech leader emphasized that PM Modi has urged tech companies to develop AI applications across various sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure, to support India's journey toward becoming a developed nation.

"We are making substantial investments in AI in India and are excited about expanding our efforts. We have initiated several programs in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, as well as with agricultural and health ministries at both central and state levels," Pichai noted.

He added, "PM Modi has always encouraged us to contribute more to India. Now, he is urging us to apply the same approach to AI. His vision clearly outlines both the opportunities AI presents and its potential benefits for the public."

After discussing his vision of turning India into a technology hub at a diaspora rally, PM Modi met with 15 CEOs from the fields of chip design, IT, and biosciences. Following their discussions, he expressed optimism about India's future on social media.

Additionally, Pichai announced the establishment of a $120 million "Global AI Opportunity Fund" aimed at providing AI education and training to communities worldwide.

Reflecting on his own background, Pichai shared at the 'UN Summit of the Future' that growing up in Chennai, India, he experienced firsthand how new technology could improve lives. He reminisced about the limited access he had to computers in his youth and how discovering fully equipped labs during his graduate studies in the US was a transformative experience.
