New Delhi: The Supreme Court, while hearing the 2002 Gujarat riot case, has ordered the Gujarat government to provide compensation, housing and job of Rs 50 lakh to the victim Bilkis Bano within two weeks. It may be noted that the apex court while hearing in the 2002 Gujarat riot case in April last year, ordered the Gujarat government to provide Rs 50 lakh compensation, government job and housing to the riot victim Bilkis Bano. Now in view of the delay in paying the compensation money in the case, the Supreme Court has taken a strong stand.

Bilkis Bano was a victim of gang rape during the 2002 Gujarat riots. During the hearing today, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi gave the order on the complaint of Bilkis Bano's lawyer Shobha Gupta. Shobha Gupta told the court that despite the Supreme Court's order five months ago, her client has not received the same amount of compensation. The bench also consists of Justices Sharad Arvind Bobde and S. Abdul Nazi.

According to the prosecution, on March 3, 2002, the family of Bilkis Bano was attacked by a mob in Ranadhikapur village near Ahmedabad. Not only this, she was gang-raped.
