New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government and Twitter in the case of posting misleading and inflammatory content on social media. The court has asked how the misleading news, messages, and hateful content (content), and advertisements being created by creating fake accounts are being stopped? It has been learned that Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna, and JusticeV Ramasubramanian have demanded a response from the Center and Twitter on the plea of BJP leader Vinit Goenka on Friday.

Advocate Ashwini Dubey, appearing for the petitioner, said that hundreds of fake accounts are running on Twitter and Facebook in the name of distinguished citizens and people sitting on the constitutional post with their actual photos whose hate and illusory content are being posted. Common citizens trust them easily. According to the information received, riots are taking place on this hateful content on social network sites, while the Delhi riot is the latest example. The frenzy of caste and religion seems to be increasing, which is a threat to the unity and brotherhood of the country. At the time of elections, political parties are promoting themselves especially by creating fake accounts, spoiling the image of the opponent.

Twitter is deliberately creating an anti-national atmosphere: The petition said that especially Twitter and its officers are deliberately inciting feelings against India. There should be a law of action against them. According to the information received, Twitter should share the algorithms and arguments for security on social media with the Government of India so that anti-country tweets can be screened. Know your customer (KYC) should be made mandatory for social media handles so that social media is safe and accounts accountable.

Twitter took action on 97 percent of accounts: It is also being said that 97 percent of the accounts on which the Ministry of Information Technology had asked Twitter to investigate. The investigation took place after the meeting of the secretaries of the ministry and representatives of Twitter on Wednesday evening. Monique Meche, vice-president (global public policy) of Twitter said they were dedicated to following the laws of India. The government had on February 4 called for the closure of 1,178 accounts, which were associated with supporters of Pak and Khalistan. Earlier it was asked for  257 accounts and tweets to be removed from Twitter, though the company resumed them after suspending a few hours.

Facebook blocked 2.69 crore content: As of this time, Facebook said that it has removed 2.69 crore content in the 2020 December quarter of the year, which was created to spread hatred. According to the company's vice president Guy Rogan, after the latest investigation, inflammatory content has dropped from 0.10-0.11 on average to 0.07 to 0.08 percent. There is only 7-8 content provoking among the 10,000 content being viewed on its platform. Violent content also declined from 0.07 percent to 0.05 percent and adult content fell from 0.05 percent to 0.03 percent.
