New Delhi: The Supreme Court of the country has given a major verdict. The court struck down Section 66 A of the IT Act against the fundamental right to freedom of expression. Under Article 19A of the Constitution, every citizen has the right to freedom of expression. It is noteworthy that according to Section 66 A of the IT Act, the government had the power to arrest the person who wrote on social media as objectionable.

Many people were sent to jail due to posting posts on social media in the last few days. The matter became hot after two Mumbai girls were sent to jail for commenting on Facebook. The Bench of Justice J Chelameswar and Justice Rohinton Nariman ruled on the misuse of the Act by the government. The court said that the IT Act clearly violates people's right to know. The court said in its judgment that this law is very vague. It violates the basic rights of Indian citizens.

Taking a very strong decision, the court has described this law as unconstitutional. Now nobody will be put in jail under this law. The petitioner in this case was Shreya Singhal, an NGO, human rights organization and a law student. The court found the petitioners' claim correct that the law violated their basic right of expression.
