New Delhi: A major decision of the Supreme Court has arrived. Now the office of the Chief Justice will come under the purview of RTI. While delivering the verdict, the apex court said that transparency does not impair judicial independence. Explain that these petitions were filed by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Court and the Central Public Information Officer of the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court's order of 2009, which said that the post of CJI is under the purview of the Right to Information Act Comes.

The bench, comprising CJI, Justice NV Ramana, Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjeev Khanna gave their verdict on the petition challenging the Delhi High Court's decision in January 2010 by the General Secretary of the apex court. The Delhi High Court had said in its judgment that the office of the CJI is a public authority and should be brought under the Right to Information Act. The bench reserved a decision on this petition in April this year.
