New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday extended the ban on the arrest of Congress leader Hardik Patel in the 2015 Patidar agitation case till March 20. A bench headed by Judge Uday Umesh Lalit has extended the end of the ban on the arrest of Congress leader Hardik Patel till 20 March. Let us tell you that on February 28, the petition was strongly slammed by the Gujarat government on the petition and sought its reply and set a date for the next hearing of the case.
Earlier on February 17, the Gujarat High Court had dismissed Hardik Patel's anticipatory bail plea in the 2015 Patidar violence case. The relief sought by Abhishek Manu Singhvi, senior advocate for Hardik, was fiercely opposed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Mehta had said that during the 2015 Patidar agitation, public property was set on fire, police stations and vehicles were burnt and Hardik was behind all this.
During the last hearing, Abhishek Manu Singhvi had said that till now the investigation of this case could not be completed. Justice Lalit had lashed out at the state government for not investigating for five years.
