New Delhi: The top court has also given permission to hold Bihar assembly elections amidst the corona pandemic. Hearing a case on Friday, the Supreme Court has approved the Election Commission to hold elections. The Supreme Court said that the election cannot be postponed due to Corona. The court said that the intention of the petition filed to stop the election is wrong. The election cannot be postponed at any cost.
Avinash Thakur had filed a petition in the apex court to stop or postpone the election. The apex court said that the Election Commission has the freedom to hold elections. The Election Commission has issued guidelines for holding elections and by-elections amidst the pandemic. Strict conditions of social distancing will have to be followed during public meetings and during the voting. It has become clear that elections in Bihar will be held on the scheduled time. The commission has issued these guidelines for the upcoming elections after considering the suggestions of political parties.
As per the conditions, only two people, including the candidate, will be able to go for nomination. Only 5 people including the candidate will be able to do door to door campaigning. District Election Officers will mark appropriate grounds for public meetings where there will be proper management of entry and exit. Meetings will be organized along with social distancing. In the guidelines released on Friday, the Election Commission has said that guidelines from time to time are issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health to protect against corona.
