New Delhi: Ratan Tata and Tata Sons have got a big relief from the top court. The Supreme Court has stayed the NCLAT order on the petition of Tata Sons. Also, the top court has issued notice to Cyrus Mistry. In fact, the NCLAT had canceled the 2016 order of the Tata Sons Board, in which Mistry was removed. Ratan Tata was appointed interim chairman after Mistry's withdrawal.
The apex court had on 10 January hearing a petition by Tata Sons Private Limited (TSPL) challenging the order of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) to reinstate Cyrus Mistry as chairman of the Tata group. The TSPL challenged NCLAT's December 18 decision. The verdict was in favor of Mistry and he was reinstated to the post of Executive Chairman of TSPL.
The judgment ruled the appointment of N Chandrasekaran as acting president of the company illegal. It was only after the NCLAT decision that Cyrus Mistry said that he was not interested in returning to any role in the Tata group. Earlier, the Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) had dismissed the petitions filed against the removal of Cyrus Mistry.
