The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to the Central Government on a petition demanding immediate minimum wages to daily wage laborers due to the applicable lockdown on the coronavirus. The court will hear the matter again on 7 April.
For your information, let us tell you that the petition was filed in this case on behalf of social workers Harsh Mandar and Anjali Bhardwaj, on which the court has issued a notice to the Central Government while hearing. Now the court will next hear the matter on April 7.
On the situation arising in the country, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday that migrants are going through social, psychological and emotional crisis in the event of lockdown. The ministry has said that sometimes, migrant laborers have to face harassment and negative reactions from the local community. All this strengthens the demand for social security. It further states that migrant workers are taken to temporary shelters to spend a few days, including isolation wards. In front of migrant workers, there is concern about food, shelter, health care, fear of getting infected and loss of wages and family.
