New Delhi: In a judgement, the Supreme Court has praised the Uttar Pradesh government's arrangements for workers returning home from other states in large numbers due to the global epidemic coronavirus. The apex court has dismissed two petitions on the problems faced by migrant labourers and appreciated the steps taken by the Uttar Pradesh government.
It may be recalled that a large number of workers from Uttar Pradesh had returned home during the lockdown in the first phase of the corona. The Yogi government in the state had given a maintenance allowance of 1,000 rupees to all of them and distributed ration kits among them. They got their skill mapping done at the district headquarters and tried their best to provide employment at the local level as per their efficiency.
Referring to the efforts of the state government, the apex court in its judgement has considered the work from registration to skill mapping as a major task in itself. The government has also submitted an affidavit in the apex court regarding these works. Not only that but a portal called http://www.rahat.up.nic.in/ was also created for transparency. It was updated on the returning labourers and all the steps taken by the Government are in their concern.
