Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to make Gairsain the capital of Uttarakhand and Pratap Nagar as the new district. On Tuesday, the apex court said, "This is a policy decision and the court cannot issue any direction in it. The bench of Justices R Bhanumathi, Justice Indu Malhotra and Justice Anirudh Bose rejected the plea of a person from Dehradun, in which he demanded Gairsain to be declared the capital. These are policy decisions and we cannot give any direction in this," the bench said. Chief Minister Rawat had announced to make Gairsain the capital, putting an end to this emotional political issue of the last 20 years.

A Commission, constituted for this, in its investigation did not find Gairsain to be the capital. The state government may feel relieved by the dismissal of the petition by the Supreme Court to make Gairsain as the capital, but this will raise the question of permanent capital. Apart from this, in the assembly session held in Bharadisain, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had announced to make Gairsain the capital. This political manoeuvre of the Chief Minister did not give even a chance to Congress. On the other hand, the BJP was seen taking the lead in this. On this, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that he would regret that he could not declare Gairsain as the capital.

Congress took the front and declared that the Congress is not satisfied with the capital and it will make Gairsain a permanent capital as soon as it comes to power. Congress will also be disappointed by the Supreme Court's refusal to interfere in the matter. On the other hand, Congress state president Pritam Singh has clearly said that the Congress has made it clear that soon after coming to power, they will make Gairsain a permanent capital. The central patron of the state agitation committee, Dhirendra Pratap, says that the agitators are already demanding permanent capital. The Supreme Court has refused to issue instructions to the government. It did not say that permanent capital should not be built. On the other hand, people want to see Gairsain as permanent capital.
