The Supreme Court on Monday granted relief to Shah Rukh Khan as it upheld Gujarat High Court which quashed the case against him related to the 2017 stampede in Vadodara Railway Station. The court said, “What was the fault of this man (Khan)? Just because he is a celebrity, it doesn’t mean he has no rights.”  He further added, “If somebody travels by train, there is no personal guarantee. A celebrity has equal rights like every other citizen of the country,” The bench added: “He (Khan) is a celebrity but that doesn’t mean he can control everyone else. Let us focus on more important subjects that deserve attention and time of this court.”

What was the matter

Shah Rukh Khan was traveling to promote the movie. A huge crowd gathered at the Vadodara railway station on January 23, 2017, upon the arrival of the August Kranti Express. Fareed Khan Pathan, a local politician, suffered a heart attack at the railway station during the stampede-like situation caused by the people eager to catch a glimpse of the actor.
