New Delhi: A petition filed in supreme court seeking rising petrol and diesel prices in the country. The petitioner was upset and said that you will withdraw the petition yourself or we should impose a fine on you. On Tuesday, when the plea was heard, by Justice Nariman, he asked the petitioner whether you would withdraw your petition or should we impose a fine?

The petitioner's lawyer said that "We only wanted to bring the matter to the notice of the court". The petition was dismissed. There was a steady increase in the prices of gasoline and diesel amid the corona pandemic. After which the opposition also targeted the government. However, if it comes to the court, the court has been refusing to interfere in this kind of policy decisions earlier.  However, now that crude oil prices have come down drastically in the global market, it has shown a slight impact in the country as well. Diesel prices have come down by 40 paise in the past few days, while petrol prices have stabilized.

According to the latest data on Tuesday, diesel prices in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai are steady at Rs 73.16, Rs 76.66, Rs 79.69 and Rs 78.48 per litre respectively. Similarly, petrol prices are priced at Rs 82.08, Rs 83.57, Rs 88.73 and Rs 85.04 per litre respectively.
