Kerala govt exempted from Bakrid hurled by SC, says people's lives were endangered

New Delhi: The court has lashed out at the government during a hearing in the apex court on Tuesday over the Kerala government's relaxation of lockdown on Bakrid. Justice RF Nariman told the Kerala government that textiles and footwear do not come under the purview of essential commodities, which was approved by you while the positivity rate is very high.

The court said that we heard the application of KV Nambiar, which was granted against the exemption granted by the Kerala government on Bakrid on the basis of newspaper reports. The Kerala government filed an affidavit containing 9 to 11 more related papers. The categories that were placed in the notification issued on June 15 classified the area from low infection to severe infection area. The second notification approved the opening of shops with seven items within the ambit of essential commodities.

The Supreme Court slammed the Kerala government saying the right to life was endangered. This attitude of the Kerala government is very unfortunate, which did not take care of Articles 21 and 144 and put the rights of citizens on the table. At the same time, the court said such policies create every possibility that covid infections will accelerate.
