New Delhi: The Supreme Court made the remarks while hearing a petition related to the Kisan Andolan on how the roads can be disrupted forever. The apex court on Thursday referred to the blocking of highways by farmers protesting on Delhi's borders against three agricultural laws passed last year and said it is the duty of the executive to implement the law prescribed by the court. The matter will come up for hearing again on Monday.
The Supreme Court allowed the Centre to file a formal application seeking to favour farmers' unions on a petition seeking to open a blockade on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border at UP Gate. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MM Sundaresh said, "Problems can be solved through judicial forums or parliamentary debates, but highways cannot be disrupted forever.''
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by Noida resident Monika Agarwal, who sought removal of the blockade, saying it used to take 20 minutes to reach Delhi and now it is taking more than two hours and the people of the locality are facing problems due to protests at UP Gate on the Delhi border.
