Lucknow: By-elections are being held in Uttar Pradesh and due to this, a by-election was also to be held on the vacant assembly seat Rampur. However, now on the order of the apex court, the Election Commission has stayed the by-election of the Rampur Assembly constituency. According to the report, the Election Commission has stayed the notification of the by-election till further orders, which were to be issued on November 10.

At the same time, Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Shukla has informed that in the Azam Khan vs Election Commission of India case, the apex court has ordered a stay on the notification of the by-election. Ajay Shukla further said that it has been decided to stop issuing notifications till further orders. 

In fact, the MP-MLA court had sentenced Samajwadi Party (SP) strongman and former MLA Azam Khan to three years in jail for making inflammatory speeches, after which the Assembly Secretariat cancelled his membership and declared the Rampur seat vacant and due to this, by-elections were to be held in Rampur. But, now on the order of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission has banned the Rampur by-election.
