The Supreme Court on Tuesday urged the chief ministers of the different states that have announced a veto on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus movie ‘Padmavati’, quoting that they cannot disallow the film in Silver Screen and added that they should not ‘prejudice the movie’.

Refusing a plea lodged by a lawyer against the release of ‘Padmavati’ as protagonist the Deepika Padukone, the Apex court further smacked the politicians who have issued brutal-violent threats against the entire cast and crew of the movie in the recent times. The Supreme Court stated that “those who hold responsible posts should be responsible with comments”, and should avoid from making statements on the heated discussion issues as the censor board was yet to make a decision on the film”.

The plea was lodged by lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma.

“When matter is pending for CBFC’s consideration, how can persons hold public offices comment on whether CBFC should issue the certificate or not? It’ll prejudice decision making of CBFC…All concerned people, holding responsible posts must be guided by rule of law and shouldn’t venture into passing comments on films which haven’t been cleared by CBFC. It’ll prejudice minds of board members while taking a decision,” a top Court bench hearing the plea quoted.
