New Delhi: The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict today on the review petition of the Central Government in the SC / ST Act case. In fact, last year, the apex court stayed the arrest immediately under the Act. The central government has sought to change this decision. In its judgment on March 20 last year, the Supreme Court had relaxed the provisions of arrest in the government in view of the misuse of SC / ST law against government employees and common people.

The court also made it necessary to register a criminal case only after preliminary inquiry and to obtain prior permission from the officer concerned before arrest in the case of government employees. In fact, earlier a bench of Justice UU Lalit and Justice Indu Malhotra had said that the old bench hearing the case has changed with the retirement of Justice Adarsh Goel, so all the cases will be heard afresh. That the case will be heard for three consecutive days and if required, the hearing can also be extended for one or two days.

Let us tell you while hearing the case on January 30, the Supreme Court, refused to stay the amendments in the SC-ST law. The central government changed the decision of the Supreme Court bypassing the Scheduled Castes Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 2018 in Parliament after the apex court verdict created a ruckus in the country.
