New Delhi: The Apex Court is likely to pronounce its verdict on a plea seeking a ban on the sale of electoral bonds on Friday. The petition was heard earlier on Wednesday and the court reserved its verdict. On a petition filed by the ADR, lawyer Prashant Bhushan had on Wednesday said in the court that electoral bonds have become a means of doing its job by paying bribes to the ruling party in the name of donations.

The Election Commission said in the Supreme Court that it supports the electoral bond scheme. Hearing this, the Apex Court made an important remark saying that these bribes are always paid not only to the ruling party but also to the party which has the chances of coming to power next time. The Election Commission told the court that they support the electoral bond as if it does not, political parties will get cash donations.

The Election Commission said it wanted more transparency in the electoral bond scheme. However, the hearing in the electoral bond case has been completed in the Apex Court. The court reserved the verdict. The courts had told the parties on Wednesday that if they wish, they can send written arguments to the court.
